The GAPSS analysis is a great tool for learning about the overall No Child Left Behind program and a good guide for future teachers. Page 8 is the introduction to the assessment page; it gives an outline teacher responsibility and standards. Also helpful is the Leadership performance Standards Summary.

Not trying to be funny, but I could use a refresher in English Grammar. I know that’s sad. I had no idea this grammar site existed. Thank you for this assingment, Dr. Dail.

Memes

Upon reading about memes, I immediately thought of chain letters that have been sent to me through email. You know, the letters that say if you forward a copy on to others, you will be blessed or something to that affect. And, of course, there are the stories that make headlines that are later to be found false. They cause a tremendous stir as web phenomena and then die out. Well, some live on, but most have a short shelf-life.

Everyone remembers the coverage and digital phenomena caused by Brittany Spears as she was photographed exiting a car without underwear.

The image that I get when I think of digital hubris is that of Linda Tripp and the whole Monica Lewinsky debacle. I remember when Linda Tripp first came forward and presented herself as someone that was doing the country a favor in presenting the taped conversations she had made with her then friend, Monica Lewinsky. It didn’t take the media long to jump on Tripp’s story and her life. She was portrayed as a villanous person and someone that could not be trusted. Reports that she had befriended Lewinsky only to secretly tape their phone convesations together, led the media to vilify her without remorse. http://www.astrodatabank.com/NMTrippLinda.htm

Metaphors as ways of seeing

Our image was that of a bull in the guise of a sandwich. This image projects the assumption that bulls and cows are seen as food, however, as a world view, both animals are revered in other parts of the world as symbols of strength. In the country of Spain, carved images of the bull can be seen on hillsides. The images stand tall and stout. It can also be found on flags, in windows, and it is displayed in every other imaginable way throughout the country. The Spanish people believe that the bull represents strength, both figuratively and literally. As seen in Spain’s history of Bull Fighting, the bull is both a symbol of national pride and a source of food for the poor.

In India, cattle are revered and are not eaten. The Indian people hold the cow as “sacred.” I have attached a website that explains why and how the Indian people view the cow as sacred.

The initial use of the images of older model cars, supported by the text that stated that the line had been MIA for quite some time, immediately drew me in to the commercial’s message. The use of a nostalgic image can leave one longing for yesterday. The initial image displayed a sentimental quality, and it was used very effectively in its connection to the future.

I thought the group did a great job tying the initial image message in with today’s marketing. The commercial was easy to follow and it was clear in its message that the “Legend” was back. I thought the group’s analysis of the visual effect on the audience was spot-on. I agree that the car chosen is a tough, fast-moving vehicle that reaches a certain demographic. If your taste in transportation runs along the line of a first-rate, cool sports car, then I would say this message came out loud and clear; however, even if my tastes ran in a totally different direction, and I would be happy in a 1969 green Maverick with multiple dents, I would still say that this message was perfectly media-driven. Given its overall nostalgic tone, I believe the message was able to reach a much larger audience than it might have without it.

My view of the commercial was that it tried to convey the message that this car line used to be the one to own. It was classy, bold, fast, and, now it is back. By prefacing with this style of rhetoric, the images transported the idea and the reality of owning such a car into the present day, showing us that it’s the same line but much better.

I loved the car and the project.

I saw the documentary this weekend. There are some amazing parts. I have to commend someone for going into such harsh territories and reporting on such a volatile subject.

Using Audacity in the classroom

It is extremely important that the visual communication techniques and software available to students ,be used for those students that are falling behind or have trouble grasping the material being taught in the classroom. I really love the idea that the writer gives us on the web page, Edtech Gold Rush. Here, the author states that “the Audacity program is a great tool for teaching writing, narrating, recording a story and adding sound effects and music before making final edits.” I am a visual person, if I read a story, I can comprehend it, but I do not always remember the important points without having to read it over again. Inspiring Stories

If you’ve never been to the Special Olympics, I would suggest that you go. I have been a part of this event before, and it is so uplifting. These kids are magnificent. I had the privilege of working with the Special Olympics in Alabama once. It changed my life.
